History at Helenswood School
Key Stage 3 History
At the Lower School, pupils find out about the history of their local community, Britain, Europe and the world. They develop a chronological overview that enables them to make connections within and across different periods and societies. They investigate Britain's relationships with the wider world and relate past events to the present day. As they develop their understanding, pupils ask and answer important questions and evaluate evidence. We aim to make History a challenging and enjoyable subject.
------------------------------ Castle Project -----------------------------
Students in Mr Armstrong's History class where recently asked to create their own model castles as a homework project. Using a range of different materials, the girls based their models on varying castle styles.
A great deal of effort went into the design, construction and decoration, with the results of the work shown below.

-------------------- The Execution of Charles the 1st ------------------
More amateur movie-making from Mr Armstrong's History Class with a look at the execution of King Charles the 1st. Several groups came up with interesting methods of conveying the historic event with some unconventional results!
The first clip is produced in plasticine by Abigail, Pheobe, Tanzina, Hannah and Fay.
The second uses computer animated stick figures on hundreds of individual frames.
---------------- The Execution of Mary, Queen of Scots ---------------
Created by Abigail Beaton and Phoebe Potts, an unusual but effective look at the execution of Mary, Queen of Scots in 1587.
