Head Girl's Blog by Georgia Moir

Keep up to date with all the latest news from Helenswood from the perspective of our Head Girl, Georgia Moir.

Hear about the plans of the Student Council, exciting in-school developments and the life of an upper school girl embarking on her GCSEs.

Georgia is joined by four Deputy Head Girls; Charlotte Spice, Laura Bloe, Emily Greenfields and Lydia Hedger. Click here for information on the student council.

I want to start off with a little bit about the deputy head girl team! Firstly I would like to clear up any confusion by informing you that sadly Beth Rafferty resigned from her post as Deputy Head girl.

However, I am excited to announce I have four new deputy head girls! They are: Charlotte Spice, Emily Greenfields, Laura Bloe and Lydia Hedger. They all chair a different committee on the school council and are responsible for everything related to that committee and providing leadership for the girls in their group. Whenever there is a bigger issue we will now work together on it and work as a unit. They all bring many different, valuable skills to the team and have already proven a pleasure to work with. We now have a new, developed way of running the Student Voice.

Committee Meetings

There are lots of meetings I have to attend which essentially help to improve communication between everyone and to get issues dealt with efficiently.  This is currently one of my ways to help build bridges between the Upper School and Lower School sites.

We’ve been blessed with the joys of snow the last couple of weeks which I hope everyone has enjoyed. Unfortunately it does have a few negative effects! Firstly it has meant it has been very difficult for me to complete the process of ordering our Year 11s Leavers hoodies, so apologies for the delay!

It has also meant that the Caretakers have been hard at work to clear the snow, the canteen staff have been working doubly hard as usual and been providing lots of extras and lots of teachers have been coming in for support so we can open the school and so Year 10-13s can take their exams! A huge thank you to those incredibly hard working and dedicated members of staff!

That’s all for now,

Georgia

The day of ‘Children in Need’ finally arrived and I was relieved to see we pulled off the show! After much stressing and chasing after people we managed to collect enough acts at very short notice - 5 days!

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved and for all those that came to watch. A big thank you to Mrs Walsh, Miss Roller and Mrs Monk who all offered much needed support; to Lydia and Devon who manned the tuck stall; to Mr McCrae, Mr Ferrin, Mrs Phillips, Mr Whitehead and all teachers who sung in the Show; to Sam Willet and Sam Woodhams who both did great jobs at presenting, to all the acts - Sydney, Holly and Alice, Sophie, and This Time round: Tom, Matt, Kirsty and Jade who all performed brilliantly and finally to the light and sound crew! I now appreciate how much work actually goes into these events!

On a similar note, well done to those who participated in the sponsored silent read and all the tutor groups at the Upper and Lower School who worked so hard to raise money for Children in Need!

Wishing all the year 11s luck in the mocks!

Can anybody tell me where term 1 went?

Year 11 is just a race against time, despite having less coursework than last year; there is more work than ever as the Mocks are coming scarily close now. The countdown on the notice board certainly does not help, and it is my mission for it to be changed to the happier prospect of Christmas! However, I am pleased to say I feel we are getting lots of support from staff, so a big thank you to all my teachers!

My first school council meeting took place a couple of weeks ago, shortly followed by a school council training day during enrichment day. I was very grateful for the opportunity to meet lots of the members at the enrichment day in a friendlier environment and found them all to be lovely people; I look forward to seeing them at the next meeting. I am slightly nervous of chairing the meeting however, as it will be my first go at it, I hope you all bear with me.  It was also very helpful to collect a few opinions and answer a few queries.

I am currently at work experience at the Magistrate courts and I am really enjoying it! It is very interesting to sit in real life court cases and would like to thank Ms. Cusack and Ms. Lion for organising work experience so well!

One last thing, lots of luck to Mrs Gale who is sadly leaving us on Friday! We will miss you!

Hello,

Yes, at long last, I have done another blog.

Today, for me, has been quite an enjoyable day - if long and tiring.  I had a Regional Student Voice Conference in Tunbridge Wells at Hillview School for Girls, along with Casey McBrian. It was basically a way of students sharing ideas and methods that have proved effective in improving their school. I’m not sure why, but this conference inspired me to believe we should try and have more of a connection with our local schools. I’m not sure how I want to do this yet, but the idea is out there!

Next year, I think I will feel more in my role and prepared for the future so I am looking to kick start ideas straight away. I really want our year to be the best it can be together.

I am learning a lot about life at the moment, and you will probably see this reflected in my actions this year. There a few things that I want to achieve as a school, and one is change the way we treat each other.  Friendship is very important to me, but it’s not just having lots of friends, it’s the bonds between friends.

I’m sure when you get back to school you’ll see a few changes, which I’m quite excited to see myself.

You may have read Beth’s essay of a blog on the website, and maybe have picked up that she’s enjoying herself quite a bit. I am too in my own way, but at the moment I am just learning lots of new things so I can be the best I can at my job.

Beth is great, as she said, we got on really well, and I really enjoy working with her. What more can I say? She’s amazing and I’m looking forward to next year!

Just keeping you posted. Next year I’ll have more interesting things to tell you, and Beth’s already written about everything really so,

Until next time,

Georgia Moir

Hi everyone,

Firstly I would just like to thank all those who voted for me, I am very grateful and surprised to have this role as the competition was very tough. I will be working with Poppy, Charlotte, Emily and Lydia this year as we want them to stay involved as they are all fantastic at what they do and would make a great team. Beth and I will be working very closely as a team and will be working hard to be your voice.

So far it has been really hectic; there has been lots of new things: a meeting with Mrs Monk, a meeting with Mrs Phillips, a couple of new Helenswood blouses each, our photographs taken and displayed, and a few small jobs to do. It has all been exciting, and Beth and I are already planning our year. Next flexiday we will be at the lower to watch a school council meeting and talk to lots of girls.

In my year as Head Girl, I want to do as much as I can, but my main priority is to get your voice heard. I would like to organise lots of fun, exciting events for fundraising for both national and local charities, and our school. I want to do something outstanding for the school that will always be seen as what I did. One project I would like to do would be to raise funds for our school to revamp our stage here at the Cleeves as it is in desperate need of same TLC. I also believe backed science lab stools are needed at both sites and would like to work on this. Beth and I next week will be working out exactly what events we’d like to hold, so watch this space!
