Welcome to Helenswood School - a Specialist School in the Performing Arts
This website will give you an introduction to the quality of education you can expect for your daughter at Helenswood and the range of experiences and opportunities we provide to enable every one of our students to develop into young women fully prepared for life beyond school.
Helenswood School is an 11-16 school, situated in Hastings, East Sussex. From 16-18, we share a ‘federal’ Sixth Form with William Parker Sports College, ensuring that the high academic standards attained by the girls can continue to flourish onwards to university.
We provide a centre of excellence for students who, through their Helenswood experience, will gain the necessary academic and personal skills to enjoy a fulfilled life, realise their career ambitions and become active and supportive members of their community.
Helenswood School achieves excellent examination success, which continues to improve year on year. Students excel in all areas of the curriculum whether it be English, mathematics and sciences, creative and practical subjects, languages or the humanities. Many of our students remain with us in our federal Sixth Form, into which we also welcome new students from other local schools. Most students continue their studies at university in courses as diverse as PE, English or Law. Such a range of talents and interests makes the school a vibrant and exciting place to study for all our students.
Our high standards are underpinned by developing students who enjoy school, feel safe and receive quality support and guidance. We consider the development and well-being of students to be the foundation of their success and have a full-time, professional support team who work with our teachers to help all students achieve their very best. OfSTED commented in their last visit that: ‘the learning environment is outstandingly caring and supportive.’
All of our students are also encouraged to participate fully in the wider life of the school. We actively develop creativity and enterprise, leadership and responsibility and a concern for the wider community. All students are involved in fundraising events and participate in local charity and community projects throughout the year. Many of you will have experienced the wealth of Helenswood talent for yourself when you attended ‘The Show’. Students develop their artistic and creative talents through drama, musical, dance and design shows and exhibitions and their sporting interests through the many trips, clubs and competitions.
We are proud of our reputation for linking traditional values of hard work, academic standards and respect for others with a forward thinking curriculum and the development of the confidence and skills needed for our girls to enter the twenty first century workforce.
I look forward to welcoming you to our school.
